Puff Pastry Danish Two Ways

Ingredients

Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish

  • Flour for dusting
  • 1 puff pastry sheet (thawed)
  • 1 egg
  • Butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp. water
Filling

Almond Puff Danish

Glaze
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp. water
  • Slivered almonds (optional)

Directions

Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Whisk together egg and water to create an egg wash. Set aside for later.
  3. Dust cutting board with flour and roll out dough.
  4. Cut about 8 strips on each side of the puff pastry directly across from each other leaving about 2 inches of the center uncut.
  5. Brush the center with butter.
  6. In a bowl us an electric mixer to combine cream cheese, powdered sugar and milk.
  7. Spread cream cheese filling into the center of dough.
  8. Spoon swirl over the cream cheese mixture and swirl in using a fork.
  9. Fold over each end of the puff pastry locking in filling.
  10. Take each strip and cross it over to the opposite side creating a shoe lace effect.
  11. Place on a parchment lined or greased cookie sheet.
  12. Brush entire top of pastry with egg wash.
  13. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown
  14. Let cool on rack for 10 min before slicing. 

Almond Puff Danish

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Whisk together egg and water to create an egg wash. Set aside for later.
  3. Roll Almond Paste into 6 balls about 1-2 tbsp. each and set aside.
  4. Dust cutting board with flour and roll out 6 puff pastry shells.
  5. Spread a small amount of butter in the center of each puff pastry.
  6. Place Almond Paste balls in center of each puff pastry.
  7. Fold up edges of puff pastries around Almond Paste pinching the top to seal.
  8. Place puff pastry balls into greased cupcake pan.
  9. Brush each one with egg wash.
  10. Bake 15-20 min until golden brown.
  11. Place on cooling rack for 10-15 min.
  12. While cooling make the glaze by combining powdered sugar and water.
  13. Once cooled drizzle with glaze and top with slivered almonds.
