How to Flavor Buttercream with Amoretti® Cookie Spreads
Buttercream is one of the easiest places to add bold, bakery quality flavor and using cookie spreads (also known as cookie butter) makes it even simpler.
Instead of relying solely on extracts or dry mix‑ins, cookie spreads bring real cookie flavor, natural sweetness, and a smooth, spoonable texture that blends seamlessly into frosting.
This method works with any of our Amoretti® Cookie Spreads. Whether you’re going for classic, seasonal, or something a little more indulgent, the result is a rich, flavorful buttercream that pipes beautifully and tastes like the filling of your favorite cookie.

How It Works
- Butter provides structure and richness, creating the base for the frosting.
- Amoretti® Cookie spread's add both flavor and body, acting almost like a flavored paste that disperses evenly throughout the buttercream.
- Powdered sugar sweetens and stabilizes the frosting while keeping it light and pipeable.
- Heavy cream allows you to fine‑tune the texture, whether you want a thick frosting for piping or a softer consistency for spreading.
Tips for Success
-
Start with room‑temperature butter: this ensures smooth blending.
-
Taste as you go: different cookie spreads vary slightly in sweetness and intensity.
-
For extra structure: chill the buttercream for 10–15 minutes before piping.
-
For layered cakes: this buttercream works especially well as both a filling and an exterior frosting.

Amoretti® Cookie Butter Frosting Recipe
Servings: 12 cupcakes/ 2-layer cake (not including exterior frosting)
Total Time: 8 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup any Amoretti® Cookie Spread
- 2 teaspoons Amoretti® Vanilla Bean Paste
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2-4 tbsp heavy cream
Directions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the softened butter on medium-low until smooth and creamy. About 2-3 minutes. This step ensures a light, lump‑free frosting.
- Add in your Amoretti Cookie Spread of choice and Vanilla Bean Paste. Mix on low until fully incorporated. The mixture should be smooth and evenly colored.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent clumping. Scrape down the sides as needed. Mix on low for 5-10 minutes to get a silky, smooth buttercream with no air pockets.
- Add heavy cream one tablespoon at a time while the mixer is running until you reach your desired texture. TIP: For piping, use less cream; for spreading, add a bit more.
- Once the buttercream has combined, increase the mixer speed for 30 seconds to whip air into the frosting for a light, fluffy finish.
- Remove from the mixer and transfer into a piping bag, or spread directly on top of cake or cupcakes.
- Enjoy!
