Homemade Dog Treats

Dogs are a part of the family too and they deserve delicious treats with wholesome ingredients! Store-bought dog treats are convenient, but contain so many chemicals and unhealthy ingredients. These Homemade Amoretti Dog Treats are natural, made with only a few simple ingredients, super easy to make and are more cost-effective than buying dog treats from the store! Have a senior dog that can't eat traditional dog biscuits? Don't worry because these treats are soft and perfect for dogs with sensitive teeth and dental problems.

The ingredients in these treats are pup approved and even have health benefits! Did you know pumpkin is a super food for dogs that contain essential nutrients and fiber? Carrots have tons of vitamins that support the immune system, eye health, and healthy skin and coat! With the addition of our Amoretti® Hot Dog Extract, these treats will make even the pickiest eater go wild!

Based on how easy these treats are to make and how much my dogs love them, these are definitely going to be a new staple. But don't take my word for it! We tested this recipe out on the dogs of Amoretti and the consensus was amazing! I ended up having to make a couple of batches to pass out because of how fast we were going through them! Check out the testimonials from our satisfied pups below!

Hot Dog Flavored Healthy and Homemade Dog Treats

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shredded carrot
  • 1 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (make sure there is no xylitol in the ingredients)
  • 2 tsp. Amoretti® Natural Hot Dog Extract
  • 2 1/2 cups oat flour

Directions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine the shredded carrot, pumpkin puree, peanut butter and Amoretti® Natural Hot Dog Extract, then mix until combined.
  3. Add in your oat flour and mix until completely combined, then chill the dough in the fridge for 30min.-1hr.
  4. Once chilled, roll the dough out to about 1/4 of an inch and use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter (or whatever cookie cutter you would like) to cut out the treats.
  5. Place your treats on the lined baking sheet (they will not spread so distance does not matter as long as they are not touching) and put them in your preheated oven.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then take them out, flip the treats over and bake for another 7 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven, allow to cool, then serve!
Notes
  • It is important to make sure you are using dog safe ingredients! Make sure you are using pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling and make sure your peanut butter is dog friendly with no xylitol!
  • You can change out the extract for a different flavor that you think your pup might like. Some other extracts that would work well are; Bacon, Ham Hock, Roast Beef and Cheddar Cheese!
  • Chilling the dough helps it solidify so it is not sticky when you are trying to roll and cut out the treats, you can cut down on chill time if you stick it in the freezer for 15 minutes instead of the fridge.
  • If you have a peanut allergy in the house you can omit the peanut butter.
  • If you do not want to use a cookie cutter you can also roll the dough into a ball in your hands.
